Is there any specific reason? I’ve always found it weird. You’d think a username not being used actively by someone would be less damaging to take then one from an active user. I never got a clear answer as to why basically nobody can claim banned users.
Not sure but it could be because, when I get banned, I need to type my username to submit an unban request - if someone claims my username then submitting an unban support request becomes up more difficult.
I didn’t have that in mind. I’m more wondering if it’s policy at instagram, or if the tools make it impossible // extremely difficult to do something like this. There are people on here who could claim an active one letter instagram user but not a banned 3 letter which is so baffling to me.
Banning on Instagram typically happens when someone violates the platform’s terms of service, meaning they’ve done something against the rules. When a username gets banned, Instagram doesn’t want to reuse it to avoid associating with the past issues caused by the previous user. So, it’s not easy for someone else to claim a banned username because of the negative history linked to it.
Interesting enough ive never had an issue claiming banned usernames. I just charge more.
Banned non-generic usernames are not a problem for a lot of service providers but nobody can get banned generics right now. All requests for them go to the security team and they reject almost all cases from what I’ve heard.
that is weird, does this happen with tiktok too ?
No, it’s way easier on TikTok and you can get every name that is not active.
It is possible to claim banned generics but the methods that are used are quite shady.
I’ve seen @goku for example be perm banned and claimed to fresh account more than once, although it is banned right now.
I also saw that @pikachu was claimed recently on instagram and sold but it was also previously disabled.
So it is possible to claim the banned generics/short users but I also think the methods are shady and there is good chance the account can be disabled in the future.
