Hi everyone,
I’m having a really annoying issue with Instagram. I deactivated my account for about two months. When I reactivated it, I tried logging in through the Instagram app on my Android phone (Google Pixel), but it keeps saying “incorrect password”, even though I’m 100% sure the password is correct.
Here’s what I tried:
Tried resetting the password from the app, didn’t work.
Used the login link sent to my email, still gave me an error.
Changed my password from a PC, that worked.
I can log in on the PC browser and on the mobile browser, no problem.
But the Instagram app still won't let me log in. Same "incorrect password" message.
I’ve also tried:
Clearing app cache and storage
Deleting all saved login info
Uninstalling and reinstalling the app (multiple times)
Still nothing works. What kind of bug is this and how can I fix it? It’s super annoying and I’m out of ideas.
Anyone else experienced this or have a solution?

From what you described, the issue isn’t your password, it’s the Instagram app on your phone acting up. Since you can log in fine on browsers, the account itself is okay. Try these fixes one by one:

Update Instagram app, Go to Play Store and update it. Sometimes the “incorrect password” bug is just an outdated app issue.

Log in with Facebook (if linked) – If your IG is linked to Facebook, try logging in that way inside the app.

Try a different device – Borrow a friend’s phone, install Instagram, and try logging in there. If it works, then the problem is with your phone’s app environment.

Remove Google Smart Lock / saved passwords – Sometimes Android auto-fills the old password and causes login errors. Go to Settings > Google > Autofill > Passwords and delete saved IG logins.

Change password again (strong + different one) – Do it from the PC browser, then try logging into the app immediately.

Wait it out – Instagram sometimes temporarily locks the app login after reactivation. It can take a few days before it starts working again.
It’s a known Instagram bug after long deactivation. Since you can log in via browser, your account’s fine it’s an app issue. Try uninstalling, clearing all leftover Instagram folders, reinstalling fresh, or logging in from another device once. It usually fixes itself within a few days.
