hi guys, I have a verified instagram account (not meta verified) and I would like to change the username on my own from within the settings. Will this automatically remove the verification badge or will it go under some sort of review?
I know this would result in removal of the badge before they introduced meta verified, i’m just wondering if its still the same now.
Yes, it will automatically get rid of the verification checkmark as soon as you change your name. I would highly recommend looking at some of the services other SWAPD members are offering that allow you to change your legacy verified account’s username without losing the verification checkmark.

hello, i was told by someone that if i try to change the username of my verified profile in the settings, my profile will be manually reviewed by a real employee at instagram. Do you know if that is true?
That’s only if the account is a stat/business page high followed & also not verified.
What @Verus has said, pretty much stands to be true. It is highly likely that if you are asking this question, your account doesn’t fall under one of those categories and you seriously risk your badge being revoked if you change your username, so I definitely wouldn’t recommend it.
I actually don’t mind losing the badge. With meta verified existing, it doesn’t really have any value anymore to me.
My worry would be that once i change my username an IG employee would see that the account does not belong to the original person whose identity was used to verify and I’d lose the account entirely.
You cannot change the username of your verified IG account from within the app. Even if you try, you’ll encounter an error telling you to contact Instagram.
Only Meta Partners with access to dedicated support portals can change the username of a legacy verified IG account. For more information, you can check out the providers that provide this service on SWAPD.
it seems like every provider on SWAPD only does the username change for meta verified accounts. Do you know of any that can do it specifically for legacy verified?
