Discord Banned in Turkey! (And Russia)

Turkey has blocked access to Discord, an instant messaging platform, following a court order. The platform refused to share certain information that the Turkish government demanded. On Wednesday, the authorities in Turkey announced this decision.

Discord, based in San Francisco, responded by saying they were aware of reports that their service was not working in both Russia and Turkey, and they were looking into it.

Turkey’s Information Technologies and Communication Authority made the access ban official by posting the decision on its website.

The justice minister, Yilmaz Tunc, explained that a court in Ankara made the decision to block Discord because of suspicions that crimes involving “child sexual abuse and obscenity” had occurred on the platform.

This move comes shortly after public anger erupted in Turkey over the murder of two women by a 19-year-old man in Istanbul. Some users on Discord were seen praising the killer on social media, which added to the outrage.

Abdulkadir Uraloglu, Turkey’s transport and infrastructure minister, said that Discord’s setup makes it hard for authorities to monitor illegal activities. He mentioned that security teams can only act when users report problematic content. Since Discord wouldn’t provide details like IP addresses or content to Turkish security forces, they had no choice but to block it.

On Tuesday, Russia also blocked Discord, claiming the company violated Russian laws after being fined earlier for not removing illegal content.

They’ve literally banned Discord because of two members who were committing violent crimes and uploading footage to Discourse. What kind of logic is that? Is Turkey slowly becoming the second Iran?

Hello everyone, as someone living in Turkey, I think I have to clarify this issue. First of all, the reason for this is that there are murders, women’s violence and child pornography images in Turkey. Believe me, we don’t really understand why our state makes such a decision. But unfortunately, these decisions are being made. Maybe you don’t know this, but Instagram was closed 1.02 months ago and we are constantly dealing with the envelopment process. But I don’t know, my goal is to do good work here and leave this country as soon as possible because I am really tired as a man. Believe me, this is why we give half of my earnings to the state. It is a funny situation. But Turkey has always had such PROBLEMS. There are many people among us who are devoted to Sharia law, but no Turkish youth will ever accept this and such a system will never enter Turkey. These situations only happen at certain times, but I think we will overcome these too.
Thank You :pray:t2:

You think its hard there in my country we cannot we say a thing to our government
few months back we didn’t even had any sort of social media because some people opposed them so they did not want it to be seen by other people. On the other hand all of the media can’t show anything because they are paid. Financially turkey is still better. My country is about to go bankrupt
