Since it’s a slow day I thought it would be a good idea to start a topic where we share a list of potential new social platforms (or apps) that could one day dominate the market. Like they say, the early bird gets the worm, it’s always nice to be one of the first marketers on any new venture. Browsing around last night I found an article on a new social platform called MeWe (https://MeWe.com). They are a 2016 Kickstarter project and currently, they claim to have one million members. What makes them different is that they claim that your personal data is never sold. I registered last night and overall the interface is nice, but it didn’t feel like it had a million members. Are any of you using MeWe?
Also, if you have any social networks worth talking about I would love if you could post it here.
In my personal opinion, I don’t think it will go anywhere or ever blow up just because of how cluttered and unprofessional the home page looks, but hey, they can always change that.
Just took a look at that earlier today (or yesterday, idek) on Socialblade, and from the comments on the article, it also appears like its going absolutely nowhere unless they change how they currently operate.
From what I read, it looks like they don’t pay content creators (so no way to make money through ad monetization like YouTube) and they even go as far as charging you money if you want your content to even have a chance to go big.
So in my opinion, most likely will not become the next big thing.
minds.com is interesting. A mix between facebook and patreon with monetization options. You get points for engagement that you can exchange for views. They claim to be pro free speech, many racists and alt-right people are there. Not my type of community. But the concept is interesting.
Sarahah is growing fast. 10-50 million installs on android alone!
Sarahah is the latest trend with US teens. It’s an anonymous messaging app that lets users send and receive feedback, anonymously. Currently, the app is number 40 on the app store top charts. “Sarahah helps you in discovering your strengths and areas for improvement by receiving honest feedback from your employees and your friends in a private manner.”
So basically, it’s a way to criticize your closest ones anonymously.
Anyone tried this app?
