X.com Suspends Thousands of Accounts Over “Inauthentic Behavior,” Raising Concerns — SWAPD Braces for Surge in Unban Requests

A growing number of users across the globe are reporting sudden account suspensions on X.com, the platform formerly known as Twitter, in what appears to be a large-scale enforcement action targeting so-called “inauthentic behavior.”

The suspensions, which began surfacing in mid-March and have continued into April 2026, are affecting accounts with no clear history of policy violations, according to user reports and independent tracking sites.

Sudden Suspensions, Limited Explanation

Users say their accounts were disabled without prior warning, often while engaging in routine activity such as browsing, posting, or interacting with content.

In many cases, affected users received a standard notification stating that their account was suspended for violating rules related to “inauthentic behavior.” Appeals submitted through the platform have reportedly been denied with minimal explanation.

The response message cited by multiple users reads:

“You will not be restored, you broke too many rules.”

The lack of detail has drawn criticism, particularly from long-time users who say they were not informed of any specific violation.

Reports Spread Across Online Communities

Discussion of the suspensions has gained traction across online forums and social media platforms.

In one widely shared thread on Reddit, users describe being locked out of accounts despite limited or passive usage.

“I literally just scroll and like posts… suspended for inauthentic behavior,” one user wrote.

The thread includes dozens of similar accounts, with users describing sudden removals, unsuccessful appeals, and confusion over what triggered enforcement action.

Possible Link to Automated Moderation Systems

While X has not issued a formal statement addressing the recent wave of suspensions, analysts point to the company’s increased reliance on automated systems to detect spam, bots, and coordinated manipulation.

“Inauthentic behavior” is a broad category under X’s policies and can include automation, coordinated activity, or engagement patterns that resemble artificial amplification.

Experts note that such systems, while necessary to combat large-scale abuse, can produce false positives, particularly when thresholds are adjusted aggressively.

Recent reporting indicates that X has intensified its anti-spam efforts in response to rising volumes of AI-generated content and coordinated activity networks. Previous enforcement waves have also led to temporary spikes in wrongful suspensions before being partially corrected.

A Platform Under Pressure

The current situation reflects broader challenges faced by major social platforms attempting to balance open participation with content integrity.

X has previously disclosed that it suspended hundreds of millions of accounts in efforts to curb spam and manipulation, underscoring the scale of the issue.

However, critics argue that the lack of transparency in enforcement decisions and the limited effectiveness of appeal mechanisms risk undermining user trust.

Secondary Effects: Demand for Account Recovery Services

Beyond user frustration, the suspension wave is expected to have ripple effects across adjacent online markets.

Platforms such as SWAPD, which facilitate digital asset transactions and services, are anticipating a potential increase in demand for account recovery and reinstatement assistance.

Industry participants suggest that when official appeal channels fail, affected users often turn to third-party services in search of solutions.

Whether the current surge in suspensions translates into sustained demand remains to be seen, but early indicators suggest heightened activity.

Ongoing Uncertainty

With no official clarification from X and continued reports of account removals, the situation remains fluid.

For users, the episode highlights the growing influence of automated moderation systems and the challenges of navigating enforcement processes that offer limited visibility or recourse.

As platforms scale their efforts to combat abuse, the margin for error appears to be widening, leaving some users caught between security measures and system limitations.

Seems the purge is still ongoing.

I’ve checked some news, and found they did a bot purge. I wonder if that’s true.

Interesting. I wonder how many bots pay X.com 500 USD per year for their premium access (like we did) :D

Oh, and sneaky X.com doesn’t cancel your subscription even when banned. If you didn’t read the fine print you would end up paying for X premium even when banned.

Also, before cancelling my sub X said: YOU ARE PREMIUM, before you cancel, you can talk to live support!

So I tired to talk to live support and = YOU CAN’T, YOU ARE BANNED.

I was bored so I decided to try the appeal one more time. But in the appeal reason I put the biggest FU I could fit (yes I am infantile). I instantly got this email:

In order to restore account functionality, you can resolve the violations by logging into your account and completing the on-screen instructions.

A few min after I logged in, the suspension notice was gone. But my account is unusable and there are NO on screen instructions.

Now our account says 0 following and 0 followers :D

Didn’t read all of that but if they’ve banned @SWAPD %100 right decision they’ve my support Love Elon Musk

Send me your case id

There is no case ID.

This AI-remove mayhem is still continuing.

Lost my 17 year account last Monday. No reason other than I was using the app as intended by liking and reposting.

I have had my account since 2011, and they removed me 3 days agao.

I have my account since 2012 (@_4D4M98) with around 1K followers and pay Premium since more than a year, mainly using it for Grok. I got suspended exactly a week ago for “inauthentic behavior” and got “your account won’t be restored” as an automated email for the appeal. So to be clear Musk fired most of Twitter and now “support” is just an algorithm that works like ■■■■ and we have to rely on its mercy to be reactivated after countless appeals and time lost/stress gained. This is absurd, all premium members should all have refund + extra for not being able to use what they pay for and having 0 human support after DAYS/WEEKS, I have important work on Grok and I can’t login with a suspended account so I’m locked out of my work for a bug and how to wait till who knows how much more

Even X’s very own follow email to us said:

Our automated systems have determined that a violation of our Rules did take place

AuToMaTed sYsTemS. You can all thank @yoda for that.

This is the guy responsible for adjusting the settings on its automated systems responsible for the purge:

If you appeal you should have one

Well, I didn’t see it. Nothing in emails.
