Ethical or Not?

Is it wrong to create an account and charge someone full claim price for an @ that they didn’t realize wasn’t taken?

A client of mine just asked for an @ that was taken. I then turned around and proposed a different one which he liked. I went to a few of my plugs and asked around and only hours later the @ was “claimed.” The person who created the account then charged me $1.8k off site for the account to release it.

I have it on good authority that it was a diamond member here on swapd due to only reaching out to a few specific people. Do you guys feel this was alright?

I’d have been fine if it was for $500 but $1.8k is crazy lol

oh.

If it were on site you’d say it’s free game?

What are your thoughts? @Brant @Alpha @SWAPD

@Christianmrob if you paid them to do the job and that’s how they acquired it on paper they fulfilled the service technically.
unfortunately lack of due diligence on you/your client part for actually trying to register the username.
However not morally right

Yeah the problem is I didn’t hire them to do it, just inquired. Thanks for your input brother! @Hooper

PM us about this with the username of who it was and any further details/proof.

Unethical business practices? Yes. Scamming? No.

NGL, I think a lot of people would do this if they had the chance and their client was completely unaware.

You just knew because you were reselling and understood the game. It’s a d* ck move, though.

Would you charge your client for it if you were the one checking its availability and then claiming it?

I’m glad you agree @Teal. Feels wrong especially since I’ve done business with this person in the past.

As much as I didn’t like the way they went about it, it put me back in the deal with my client— just stuck with the price I originally quoted. Definitely would’ve just given it to them free if I had noticed.

I agree with @teal that this was a dick move. If it happened to me, I would feel that this person was untrustworthy and not make any further inquiries with them going forward.

It sucks even more since you’ve done business with them in the past, presumably without any issues like this.
