If this becomes permanent, then how will we determine the engagement ratio for an account? 
Moving this to Public Blog, as it’s a topic worthy of discussion. I personally believe this will backfire and they will not roll this out globally. I believe people are drawn into the number of likes/views. But looking at those Twitter comments I can tell people are pretty divided on this topic. I have not been following this, but what is Instagram trying to accomplish by doing this?
I am in canada so the number of likes is blocked. Yhe app is really useless with it out. I end up going to instgram in my desktop and have stopped using it on my phone.
Instgram is a personal pr platfrom and a popularity contest. Take it away… the app was very little to offer…

But I guess instagram doesn’t want it to be a PR platform, they want the users to only care about the pictures and nothing else. Sometimes people are afraid to post certain photos because they won’t get enough likes etc and it can really effect someone’s mental health and effecting the overall user experience. I think they should roll this out globally but have an option if you want to display likes.
Going by this logic Instagram should hide comments, followers count as well, as this can also effect someone’s mental health 
. I think what you said is right to some extent, but the % of those kind of people is very less, majority of the people wants to show off on Instagram, and number of likes ,views gives a feeling of satisfaction to them.
they want to limit that direct company to influencers happening in ig bypassing their advertising and looking for ways to make the companies more dependent on ig data.
When youll look for an influencer, you won’t have that initial filter of engagement based on likes and views, making you job much harder.
But no doubt this will hurt them, likes and views is what keeps ig running. Dont believe it will roll out globally.
Yep, they have to hide the comments too, like, views followers…
if they do there is no metric to hold a profiles values and importance.
it also means they have to get rid of verified accounts.
if they want everyone to equal then they can just call it Socialist gram.
