Is Verification Worth The Investment?

Same… That’s what’s holding me back… I’ve never posted any picture on social media and I don’t intend to do anytime soon but can’t verify my personal account without any picture it seems

Guys who know this stuff - why is it always seen as much harder to verify a business account instead of personal on instagram?

True no one has been willing to handle our clients online brands verification , seems a trademark is needed however it would be great if someone would enlighten us more about the process of Businesses verifications and if any member here is able to do such verifications.

From what I’ve gathered in this thread, pursuing verification on an establish business and/or showing steady growth, it is worth it.

If anyone has started with a fresh verification (little to no following) with expectation to gain traction, I would love to hear your perspective and experience.

I’d like to thank everyone for their input.

I’ve just been sitting back and absorbing all the information and some of it has been helpful.

Here are my Takeaways, but someone please correct me if I’m wrong.

Earning Through Selling Verifications / Media Panel
I think we all know that having a media panel is a gold mine. The amounts charged for submission alone and the sheer volume of people that want verification shows that it’s a good business model in itself, but that hype of “get verified and make a ton of money verifying people” is simply just hype and not a realistic thought process, because it’s not possible without a media panel. If I thought I could or knew how to get a media panel, I’d have one by now and this conversation would be a non issue.

So unless someone is selling a PR + Verification + Media Panel Access, then whole conversation and business model is useless to the vast majority of us and I’m not one to give false hope to people in terms of potential earnings. And honestly, the prices that PR & Submissions are at now, reselling services on here to our own networks is difficult. Sure, I could sell submissions all day for 2k, but when I have to mark that up to $3,500 to make a small profit, people are much less interested. I think the prices being charged now are almost at the top of the market or in other words, it’s the most the average person is willing to pay. So reselling isn’t really an option either.

Takeaway - Looking to get verified in order to make a fortune selling verifications is a bad investment unless you can figure out how to get a Media Panel in conjunction with a verification. And even then, if you find someone that can hook you up with a Media Panel and verification-- based on the prices now, your investment will go from 10k to about 40-60K.

Selling Services, Courses, Coaching and/or Mentoring via Verification

This is where I think the coveted checkmark has the most potential. It shows authority and builds immediate trust with potential customers and in my opinion it’s probably going to increase conversion rates.

The biggest question we all have to answer individually is – Is it worth 10K? As a business there are many different revenue generating investments we can make for 10K. Is the checkmark going to earn you more than if you spent 10K on advertising or hired an employee and took your Content Volume and quality to the next level?

I’m not sure. That’s something we all have to answer individually.

Selling a product via Verification

I’m not sure this one carries as much weight unless your brand is verified. If I’m buying a service from a person, I think the verification carries significant weight, but if I’m buying a product from a person, I don’t care as much. However, if I’m buying from a brand or company that is verified, then I think it carries significant value.

Working with Brands as a celebrity or influencer

I do think that in this situation, it also holds significant value, but only if you already have a large and highly engaged following. A verification on an account with 5K followers and a 1% engagement rate isn’t going to get you very far. However, a verification on a personal page with 100K and a 4% engagement rate would be significant.

Building a following with verification

I do think there is some validity here. As others have mentioned, the IG Algorithm favors verified accounts and people favor verified accounts. So, techniques like follow / unfollow would obviously return a higher percentage of return follows. People may be more likely to follow you for simply liking or commenting on their post. So, building a following as a verified user will certainly be easier, but the real questions is – Will it be 10K easier?

What topics have I missed and what topics are there inaccuracies in the thought process?

Depends,
I’m kind of an athlete (less famous sport). And some of our best members on our team has like 15K followers (worldwide champ). In my opinion if they are verified they will get more easily sponsorship from companies like redbull and car companies. I’ll say it worth in case of athletes, artist, business etc.

This is so true

It completely depends on who is getting verified and what their goal is.

Of the 100+ clients I have verified, I would say 50% of them purchased it for status. These are the jet-owning, Bugatti driving kind of people who just want it - cause, why not?

Then there would be 25% which are businesses. Legitimate companies that want to get verified as that would make their page seem more authoritative, trustable, and legitimate. This can be anything from a hospital to a university to a CBD brand - you name it. For these people, its an investment in the name of marketing. Some of these companies that I did for were anyway spending $1m a month on billboards, magazines and other ads. So - the ‘investment’ for verification to them was really a no-brainer.

Then finally there would be 25% which are entrepreneurs, influencers, businessmen who are aiming to get an actual immediate ROI out of this. Influencers who are already bringing in cash can expect better conversions and demand higher rates if verified. Businessmen and entrepreneurs see ROI in terms of networking. With a verified profile and a decent account, its much easier to network with people on Instagram.

I don’t know about what rates/charges influencers have in other countries. But here in Dubai, UAE an influencer who is verified and has 500k or so can easily ask for AED 10k (USD 3k) per post, if not more. If they are at 1m+ and also have a decent YouTube channel then the number is much higher. So, it definitely does seem like a great investment.

Those who buy it for this purpose definitely see an increase in revenue. But, those who buy it for vanity, don’t.

Personally, 100%.

Both.

Being verified on pretty much all social medias, I don’t really notice a change in peoples behavior except the daily DMs about how to get verified and “im your biggest fan” messages.

Being verified on Twitter however, is pretty cool. Because it’s not just a checkmark.

Twitter verification brings certain benefits;

  • Rank higher in trends
  • Verified tab where you can see interaction from other verified accounts
  • 1000 account daily follow-limit
  • Ability to monetize through Twitter Amplify
  • More interaction just because of the checkmark

When my IG profile was public, I wasn’t gaining anything at all. I was losing followers if anything (probably because I’m very inactive there). But once I turned my IG to private, I started gaining a lot of followers everyday. Weird.

Additionally, for Twitter;
Once you’re verified with a minimum of 100K followers, you have a higher chance of ending up in the “Who to follow” section more frequently. Through that section, I would estimate that I gain roughly 200 followers per day.

Is it ok to have a Insta verified account private? In relation to Insta terms?

I know that they generally advise against it by saying “verified accounts must be public” but I switch mine back and forth with no issues.

Being private and verified is NOT allowed. The thing is that they have no control systems in place to prevent/detect it. However, if your acc happens to be seen by an IG employee (during a support request for example), they will take it away and there is no way to get it back. So basically you just have to be lucky.

I guess “per policy” it’s not allowed, but I can name a handful of A-list celebrities who are verified and private. I’ve communicated with my FB rep directly through IG DMs while private with no issues, and I’ve also changed the username of my IG while verified and private. I guess it’s “case-by-case” when it comes to whether or not it being allowed, but I do not advise people to go private on their verified accounts (just to be sure).

Why do you go into people’s threads and try to make them look bad lol

To each his own brother :joy:
