What i have heard is you can change the username half. And then half after 2 weeks. This way you won’t lose badge.
For example the account handle is abc_123 and you want it to be xyz_789.
So first change half Username abc_789.
Once it’s done.
Wait for 2 weeks. Then change remaininy xyz_789
Note: I haven’t tried this myself, a friend of mine did it like 3 or 4 months ago.
