Why does this function exist? Now I can’t see someone his previous messages / threads and even his reviews. I would love to check first some previous listings or reviews, before doing business with someone.

You can still find all of that using the search feature, I like it personally because it prevents to some extent randoms messaging about really old listings.
It’s also a requirement for app stores. Even though iOS gave us the boot, we’re still in Google Play.
But even the reviews rating?

Yes, even. Everyone has a right to privacy. No one is forcing you to use someone’s services. If they’re hiding, don’t deal with them. It’s as simple as that.
