you ever see a car dealership charge people 5$ to look at a car?
why is a $1 fee a problem? Are people this poor? Then why are they even on the site if they can’t afford $1 to begin a convo? This actually weeds out non-serious buyers b/c people that can’t afford $1 are not serious
It should be this way… should need to pay to even have the appointment to look at the car…
This isn’t SWAPD exclusive. This happens on every marketplace, since the dawn of time. Charging people to reply has to be the craziest idea I’ve heard, which would undoubtedly kill the site and cause it to be ridiculed all over the web. We’re not a Bugatti salon where you have to make an appointment, we’re a small forum-based marketplace. Sellers never have it easy, whether it’s on SWAPD or anywhere else.
You do realise that people tend to inquire 10 sellers and buy from the best one . That would mean $50 for chatting . What if the service they want is $50. Do you think it’s worth it ??
This will never happen but as a seller I would love to pay $10 or so to get fast responses from sellers for high-quality services.
Sometimes their responses take several days or they are ghosting right before opening a ticket.
This is wasting my time and I am losing reputation with my clients.
That’s because you’re a reseller. What do you expect? No one cares that you have clients, that’s your problem. Not the sellers on SWAPD.
Agreed

My issue is this… we all can agree, without question, timewasters are a problem.
No seller will deny it. So what is the solution to reduce timewasters?
It’s not OK to just do nothing and accept it is the way it is. Do something about it. Many very easy things can be done to combat the issue:
- Pay $1 to speak
- Free to speak, but after 3 questions, must pay to keep going
- If a person does 10 contacts and buys 0 times, then ban. Must have buying % over a certain rate
I am not the first person to want to charge for time. I pay someone else I buy from on another platform for even being allowed to talk to them. Not joking. Makes perfect sense
Sorry, but I am laughing just reading that. If I joined a site and saw that, I would LOL myself out really quick. And probably even tell my friends about this over a beer. “Hey yeah so last week this site tried to charge me 1 USD to speak”.
What are we, X.com?
A gazillion dollars
I feel like I am wasting time reading this topic. Someone pay me right now.
It doesn’t matter if I am reselling or not because in the end nobody is making money and sellers are also waisting their time. It’s just a loss for the whole marketplace.
yeah i get it, like bro i keep getting ghosted by buyers who just don’t say “yes” or “no”, but it is what it is
My last response here.
I know time wasters are a pain…
But they just come with the business. It’s something you have to deal with, unfortunately. Every month, 300-500 tickets on our end get canceled. Many because of time wasters. It’s just business, there is nothing we can do about it.
SWAPD actually did message me about buying a domain I own, then dropped out, just like many many others. I realize that not each person is going to buy and respect that but the rate of timewasters is too high in general. Do something to reduce it, even basic rules. Nobody wants it-- we can all agree
