13 hours. It’s over for me :sob::pray:

Just some thoughts

So if you get a bunch of new PMs from Users in opposite time zones, only to wake up 8hrs later This will increase/reflect the gap in your response time window?

I do like the idea of this because it gives us sellers some accountability and motivation to ensure we’re doing our best to respond as promptly as we can… BUT

Could this actually end up putting too much pressure on us sellers? What if it just pushes us to respond super fast and not really think through our replies?

while I get that it’s supposed to make us more accountable and all, I’m worried it might lead to some serious burnout. We might start firing off quick “got your message” responses just to keep our stats looking good, (this could be easy to abuse) which doesn’t really show how we handle the deeper conversations that follow–since the feature only accounts for initial responses to new PMs and ignores ongoing convos.

So, while the idea sounds good on paper to boost response times, it could also mean we’re trading quality for speed, and that might not be the best move for anyone.

Also…what if this super low response time sets up expectations that just aren’t realistic? If buyers start seeing these lightning-fast times, they might think that’s the norm and get upset when any of us take a bit longer to reply, even if we’re still within a reasonable timeframe. That could just ramp up the pressure even more and lead to even more buyer dissatisfaction.

Just my opinion!

Strong points.

I still feel like it’s not that important to be the quickest. It’s just good to know when you can expect a reply from sellers and that it’s main use (my p.o.v. as a guy who mostly buys on swapd).

I personally don’t think your inquiries will go down if you have longer respond rates (unless it’s like 3 days).

This will probably happen though and it will make it useless again.

I agree with @Abstract. @SWAPD What I recommend is connecting this new feature to the “last seen” feature, and the unresponsiveness timer should only begin once the user gets back online.

This ensures that you don’t get bad response time because you’re asleep or not available at all, and can actually see that there’s a new message from someone.

Well that would mean the average respond time is not accurate. If I as a buyer want to know what average respond time abstract has, we also have to include the time where he is not available.

I feel like people just want quick respond times now, although I understand, it’s not really the real intention behind it.

I think I understand where the pressure comes from

I personally think that as long as your response time is within 24 hours, it shouldn’t hurt your chances with those that are looking for sellers of a service.

The stat is also reset very often, so even if you are away for personal reasons, you needn’t worry too much and feel unnecessary pressure on yourself to respond, as once you’re back to your usual routine, the stat will fix itself.

The only people who need to worry about this are those that regularly take days to respond and in that case, I think the buyers deserve to know who these people are, so their expectations are properly managed.

Just my two cents on this.

Come to think of it, in order to avoid people trying to bamboozle the stats, could there be a built-in system where the data will only count initial replies to new users.

Eg: You can’t just start four new PMs with two of your friends and have the stats say you reply immediately. The system will realise that you only replied to two new users, instead of four initial new messages. This “new user” data will reset every X days (probably 14 days or 30 days).

This feature will also allow users to ignore messages, without needing to feel as though you have to reply to every new message all the time, especially if someone is creating a new message every time if you are ignoring them. You’ll only need to reply to them once a month, for example, to make sure it doesn’t hurt your stats

Or maybe modifying the feature a bit and instead of having exact time in hours, there could be 3 badges:

  1. :zap:@username usually responds within 12 hours.”
  2. :hourglass_flowing_sand:@username usually responds within 24 hours.”
  3. :turtle:@username usually takes more than 24 hours to respond. It might take a while to get a response.”

It basically merges all users who have response time from one minute to 12 hours into the first (best) group, which ensures that users get enough time to respond (12 hours seems appropriate as average sleep time is 8-9h). This will benefit users who dedicate a lot of their time to SWAPD.

Second and third group will work the same (from 12 hours to 24 hours for 2. group and 24+ hours for 3. group.)
