Apple’s latest release of iOS and iPadOS introduces a feature that allows web apps added to your device’s home screen to send mobile web push notifications. Compatible websites like SWAPD can now function much like dedicated iOS apps, offering instant push notifications, a dedicated app icon, quick loading, and a clean interface without the URL bar.
How to Install SWAPD as an iOS App:
Note: Please delete any prior SWAPD apps from your phone before proceeding.
- Launch the Safari browser on your mobile Apple device running iOS 17.4.1 or higher. Older versions of iOS may not work.
- Visit SWAPD.co.
- Tap the Share button in Safari’s toolbar.
- Choose the Add to Home Screen option from the share menu.
- Save the SWAPD app to your device’s home screen.
- Locate the SWAPD app icon on your home screen and open it.
- Log in to your SWAPD account.
- To receive push notifications, make sure to subscribe by clicking the subscribe button (native permission prompt will appear).
That’s all there is to it!
Troubleshooting:
Since iOS web notifications are relatively new, you may encounter issues with SWAPD’s functionality if certain settings are not enabled. If you’re not receiving push notifications, follow these steps:
- Navigate to your SWAPD preferences.
- Click on notifications.
- Disable and then re-enable notifications.
- If you receive a push notification confirmation, it means the fix worked! If not, feel free to contact @administrators for assistance.
If you’re still having problems:
- Open your device’s Settings.
- Scroll down and select Safari.
- Continue scrolling to the bottom and tap Advanced.
- At the bottom, access Feature Flags.
- Locate Notifications settings and ensure they are turned ON.
If you are still not receiving notifications, ensure that Live notifications are enabled in your SWAPD preferences. Keep in mind that this feature is compatible with devices running iOS 17.4.1 or later.
